Data insights

Data experts John Jenkins and Randy Miller, who created FOIAengine, regularly dive deep into the data to break news and identify trends. Their recent work includes:

    • Unearthing thousands of FOIA requests used by Project 2025 to target government officials for removal. The initial research found that 1,545 of Project 2025 FOIA requests targeted 401 Defense Department officials, or virtually every member of the Pentagon’s’ leadership. Read more. See all Project 2025 requests.

    • Learning that labor strife at Starbucks has coincided with a huge number of FOIA requests concerning the coffee company being submitted to the National Labor Relations Board (matching troubled airline manufacturer Boeing). Those FOIA requests indicate pending media coverage and lawsuits. Read more.

    • A deep dive into requests for information about GLP-1 weight-loss drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy. Those drugs were collectively one of the most popular FOIA subjects in 2024. Read more.

New in FOIAengine: Organization IDs

FOIA requests are often long and they can be difficult to parse when you are trying to find something specific. To help our subscribers with that issue, we have added a new feature that identifies organizations named in a FOIA request and organizes them in a manner that helps you find exactly what you need.
